The Gifu Tabune turned out to be my first completed scratch-build of a Japanese traditional boat, though it’s not the first I began. But, the simplicity of design and small model size made it very easy to finish in a very short period of time. This model was built with only 14 pieces of wood, which is about the same for the actual boat it’s based on.

I used mostly Japanese cedar, but the real boats of this type were traditional a type of pine, so the coloring should actually be much lighter.
